Materials for Chainplates

1 May2024: Just picked up four metres of 50mm x 10mm aluminium. This will be cut into used for; shrouds, lowers and backstay chainplates and backing plates. I had the worry over suitable dimensions & costs removed by the supplier. They do not stock 35 or 40mm bar in lesser thicknesses, & as far as I am concerned its pretty cheap relative to their usefulness to the ship.  
Any leftovers will be used as cleats for a (Jordan Series) Drogue on each quarter. 

WORKING ALUMINIUM
A trap for Newbies is that being sof Aluminium will clog files & other cutting implements. 
But Tradesman Google turns up some advice on how to get ahead. Apply chalk, soap, metho or wd40 to the cutting edge, this allows  better shedding of shavings or swarf.

 Hello Friends,  This week I joined Australian Friends of the Camino. For  $30 pa I get a newsletter,  information,  a support network & access to a "Pilgrim's Credencial". I also become a supporter pf the Caminos.  I'm now waiting on an Information Package. And AFOC wished me a buen camino! My first ever.   -  z z z z z z x  - News from the Camino Portuges - Coastal is that numbers of pilgrims post Covid are bursting & finding a bed in an albergue is hard.  - x x x x x x x - I've read some & viewed some of BEAU MILES' work.  Once an extreme type adventurer he now focuses on smaller stiff like walking 87k to work over 30hrs, or paddling overgrown & polluted canals,  creeks & rivers to work. Great guy.   As a college adventure lecturer he is quite scientific in his quests. At one point he recalled being encouraged to COUNT YOUR STEPS AS YOU WALK. That's my boy. On his     Learners, he has to ride 6 hours away to attend a course and test to gain his Provisional licence.  This is him about to set off and I couldn't be less concerned for his safety. Hr has a very cool head, has replaced the rear tyre and a cracked mirror, is wearing 2 bike jackets, the outer with shoulder, elbow and back protectors. Definitely, he has more good sense than I did at his age.  Hopefully he will take special care and car drivers will be considerate towards Joe.  Good luck Joe. Proud of you mate.

Stage 4/5 of Eileen Pilgrimage Completed

 After two very wet Saturdays I finally got an okay Saturday for more pilgrimage.   I left a little late and with 2 hrs train travel to return to my launching place, it would be early afternoon before a pedal was trod in anger.  Alighting at Ourimbah I was pleasantly surprised with steep rocky little hills conferred with thick vegetation.  Recent rains made them sound absorbent and extra lush. This is the first time I thought of a place I could live in this part of the world. As many locals commute to Sydney for work,  are chronically unemployed or aged, much of the coast has a neglected feel.  But today it looked lovely here.   With lights and hi viz or little red bike made its way north east y cross or path home at Chittaway Bay Road. Going east bound I discovered a cycle path that had a green tunnel thing going on.  So traffic noise was dulled and the risk of being run down in heavy day tripper traffic was reduced.   The green tunnel effect.  We hit the coast at Foresters Beach.  No
